Aluminium formwork manufacturers claim that the formwork is designed for nearly 200 to 300 repetitions. However, for any average residential project we are able to use it only for 20 to 40 times. The buying price of new formwork is very high and it is nearly Rs 9500 to Rs 12500 per sqm. If the formwork is not reused the value is not gained. Presently even manufacturing companies are offering re-design, but it’s a general trend that they try to push more and more new material. So ultimately the client’s maximum material is remains un-utilised. In Kalpataru, we have analysed the various projects of ours and till today we have successfully re-used more than 70% of material as it is, and 20% is modified. Adding up, in short 90% of the existing material is re-used, only 10% had to be bought new that also in few cases. The reason behind this achievement and consistent achievement is nothing special, but design of formwork based on client’s inventory and not as per formwork standard sizes. Also the experienced and sincere designers here first finalise the maximum re-usability possible and then it is checked by seniors. After approval only the actual designing is started. For re-designing the requirements are as follows:- 1. Packing list of Old Material 2. Architectural Drawing 3. Structural Drawing 4. Elevation and sections. Combining the available drawings, the shell plan is prepared which is approved by the client and based on approved shell drawing the designing of formwork is done. When the formwork designing is started the formwork drawing is called modulation drawing. Prior to start the modulation a thorough study and analysis of the packing list is required.

Based on the packing list first the panels are shortlisted, which will become the major part of the designed panels. in the drawing based on the design and loading criteria’s. After all the shortlisted panels are consumed then the balance part is designed with the remaining panels of the inventory which will get used after modification. Finally, the remaining blanks are filled with new components. Likewise, the drawing is completed and is forwarded to the design head for checking and review. Once the comments from the design head is implemented then the drawing is sent back for approval. From the approved modulation drawing, an IPO list is created, which is sub-categorised in 3 units namely: - a. Used Directly b. Modified and re-used. (Cut and welded) c. New procurement. After the list is finalised then the re-usability percentage is calculated, and the same drawing is passed on if the re-usability percentage is more than 80% of the total inventory area. Modulation drawing is prepared as per Aluminium formwork international standard scheme drawing. All the vertical formwork is shown in individual elevations, which makes the drawings easy to read, and even a labour foreman can understand the drawing and carry on erection on his own. Time Period for the activity: - We consider the day of shell plan approval as Day 0. Shell plan is prepared in 7 days of receipt of drawings from client. a. Approval of Shell Plan – Day 0 b. Modulation Drawing – Day 12 c. IPO list – Day 16. d. Start of fabrication at site – Day 21 e. Completion of Fabrication at site – Day 50. In-short the formwork material is ready to be re-used after 50 days from the day of shell plan approval. .
